A little altered something

Whilst we were shopping in Shanghai one of the clothing stores was giving away free diaries with every purchase.  It had a plain white plastic cover with their logo in the middle.  The diary itself was really useful as it appears it covers half of those year and the whole of next with a few extras.  It was duly packed in my things to go in the craft room boxes (of which there were many).  I was playing around last week and decided to have a go at altering that diary.  Having just got back from a trip to The Artistic Stamper and seen some of the beautiful samples that Jenny has up on the wall I was a tad inspired!!

Thankfully the cover came off the main diary which made it so much easier.  Firstly I covered it in a layer of fresco finish Bora Bora paint.  Not quite sure why just seemed a good idea at the time!!

Then once that was dry I added some stencilling with grunge paste

So far so good I thought, and that's were I left it, I made some die cuts and found some Tim Holtz letters and stuck them all on with multi medium.  Then I couldn't decide whether to carry on with paints or get the distress inks out. So I left it alone to dry.  Today I decided to carry on with it.  I am so glad that I had left it as it gave me a chance to think about what else I could do with it. I decided to put a layer of gesso over it mostly on the die cuts as I had just cut them out of Kraft card I had some clay flowers on my desk that I had made last week and again after sticking covered with gesso.

Then I got the sprays out!!!

Opened out

With the diary back inside

I used Dylusions lemon zest and London blue to start with and the colours mixed themselves up really nicely without adding any water to them.  Spritzed a bit of Dylusions melted chocolate on.  Then topped it all off with a bit of treasure gold, using classic, sapphire and onyxite.  It has taken a while to dry as obviously being plastic I couldn't put the heat gun on it for too long.

All I am hoping now is that nothing falls off ;-)

Thanks for popping over to have a look and as usual do let me know what you think good or bad!

Happy crafting

The shipment arrived with all of my crafting supplies and everything else.  Boy there was a lot to unpack and with general other stuff getting in the way it has taken me until today to finally get my craft room straight.  Shelves bought and erected, desk bought and erected and everything crafty finally unpacked and some semblance of order!!!  Well to me anyway.

So today I got out my journal and my dylusion sprays and just had a play.  I was a bit worried that my mojo had disappeared and that it would need some encouragement to come back.  Once I got started though, and made a few errors - looking at a dylusions spray whilst attempting to unblock the nozzle with a pin is really not a good idea - I did manage to get out of the way just in time - well I think my jumper has survived lol!!  You would think having done that once that I would have learnt my lesson but no!!  Still not quite sure how my cream jumper has stayed cream.  Serves me right for not covering up, I just feel a bit inhibited when I wear an apron in the kitchen let alone whilst crafting!!

So here is today's play, nothing out of the ordinary I am afraid but hopefully I will be back up with more regular posts.

The inks I used were all dylusions and colours used are: fresh lime, lemon zest, squeezed orange and melted chocolate.  I was having a play with my new stencil from Georgina Ford. (It's great living close to The Artistic Stamper!!) This is the bit done in the melted chocolated. The lighter stencilling is done with grunge paste tinted with lemon zest and the stencil is Tim Holtz.  The words are from Tim Holtz and the clock is paper artsy as is the feather stamp.

As always do let me have your comments.  It's always good to hear what people think.  Thanks for visiting take care.
